The David Scalise Memorial Scholarship
The Western Academy of Legal Studies in Business has established a conference scholarship to honor David Scalise, former University of San Francisco Professor of Business Law. The David Scalise Memorial Scholarship Fund was created to offset unreimbursed registration and travel expenses for an exceptional presenter at the annual WALSB conference.
David Scalise began teaching at USF in 1972 and remained a professor there until his death in 2013. Scalise was very active in WALSB. Many WALSB members remember his warm personality and contagious smile. He was very well loved by his family, students, and colleagues. “Professor Dave” was elected Professor of the Year at the University of San Francisco year after year, more times than any other individual in the history of the university. He was an exceptional mentor to new professors, always generous with career advice, and teaching tips.
To apply for next year's $150 conference scholarship (for 2023), please write a short paragraph explaining why you should be this year's winner. Please tell us whether your conference expenses will be reimbursed by your employer or university. Also, please explain why you are deserving of this memorial scholarship and how your teaching and scholarship honor the memory of David Scalise and his dedication to our profession as business law educators.
Your paragraph should be emailed to:
Professor Wade Chumney, WALSB Vice President 2022-2023, at wade.chumney@csun.edu.
Please type the words "SCALISE SCHOLARSHIP" in the subject line of your email.
THANK YOU FOR HELPING US HONOR DAVID SCALISE.
