Welcome to WALSB 2020!
The Western Academy of Legal Studies in Business (WALSB) serves the legal and business interests of academics and practitioners throughout the western region, as well as across the nation and around the world. We host an annual conference each spring, bringing together practitioners and academics from around the world.
In 2020, for the very first time our conference will be held at beautiful Lake Tahoe.
Dean Gregory Mosier of the College of Business University of Nevada, Reno, graciously invited WALSB to come to Lake Tahoe to hold our annual conference in 2020. John Nolan, VP and Conference Chair for 2020, shared that WALSB's region included Nevada and yet we had never held a conference in the state.
As we looked around the room, a collective sentiment of "we should do something" began to percolate amongst many in the room. We held a candid discussion and an official vote. The result was in... WALSB was going to Lake Tahoe! We recognize that this will be a historic event as we leave the balmy shores of Monterey, CA to the majestic landscape of Lake Tahoe.
As such, we are doing things a little differently for 2020:
First, we have invited Dean Gregory Mosier to give the keynote address on Friday evening as part of our official opening ceremony.
Second, we have invited Dean Caryn Beck-Dudley of the Leavey School of Business, Santa Clara University to give the keynote address during lunch on Saturday afternoon.
Third, David Orozco, American Business Law Journal (ABLJ) Editorial Board, will host a workshop entitled, "Tips & Strategies for Getting Published in the ABLJ" on Friday afternoon. David will also discuss his new business law textbook, entitled "Business Law & Strategy." It is authored by three of our very own colleagues: Sean Melvin, David Orozco, and Enrique Guerra-Pujol.
In addition to participating in the excellent presentations and academic discussions which WALSB is known for, this coming year we invite you to explore Lake Tahoe, a breathtaking freshwater lake in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, bordering both Nevada and California. Lake Tahoe is known for its beautiful beaches and world-class ski resorts. In fact, Lake Tahoe, which hosted the 1960 Winter Olympics, boasts the largest concentration of ski resorts in North America. Some of these ski resorts stay open through May, and if skiing is your thing, you likely know that spring skiing means lighter crowds and lower prices! To close the conference on Saturday evening, we have arranged an optional sightseeing dinner cruise on South Lake Tahoe itself, which Mark Twain proclaimed "the fairest picture the whole world affords"!
If you are seeking live entertainment or want to try your hand against lady luck, please note that Harveys, our conference resort hotel, is home of a Caesars Casino.
Regardless of whether you are seeking sports, entertainment, excitement, or just some needed rest and relaxation in a naturally beautiful destination, you will have a wonderful experience visiting Lake Tahoe and seeing all that it has to offer. We invite you to come enjoy with us the amazing natural beauty of Lake Tahoe.

See you at beautiful Lake Tahoe March 27-29, 2020! We suggest that you arrive Thursday evening, March 26th or early Friday morning, March 27th to be able to participate in all of the programming and events that we have put together for you.
